The Coalition Project

The Coalition Project provides consultation, training and research on coalitions and collaborations Founded in 1985 with the Education Center for Community Organizing. The Project utilizes research-based interventions to enhance coalitions. Focus groups, surveys and interviews with 40 social change coalitions, grounded in professional literature, produced critical insights about the challenges and techniques for effective coalition-building, and launched ongoing training and consultation with diverse varieties of the coalition model. Articles and workbooks articulate the approach, anfd are available for public use.

Strategic Community Research

A joint venture with partner David Rubel Associates, SCR equips organizations to utilize comprehensive research data about their target communities and constituencies to plan effective programs and write winning proposals. We document demographics, resources, needs and trends shaping the operating environments of client organizations. Data is researched, analyzed and delivered in various formats, to guide program and community development. We identify or create innovative models and data-driven strategies and solutions for local problems. Our popular training on how to conduct participatory needs assessments is provided to non-profit and government staff and board members. Manuals and exercises are available for self-guided study.

Igniting Non-Profit Advocacy

Advocacy is a vital tool for non-profit organizational survival and impact. Essential for social change, advocacy strategies also equip boards and staff to position their organization for public participation, act on their issues, champion their constituencies and sustain support. A work in progress as of 2005, this project intends to increase the capacity of non-profit organizations to engage in advocacy efforts that help them to achieve mission and social justice.
